With the recent passage of the United States federal energy bill the North American ethanol producers are excited about the opportunities the future holds.  The US market for ethanol is presently 3.5 billion gallons per year and with the recent passage of the Energy Bill the market will grow the 8.5 billion gallons in the year 2012.   For the producers to attain that goal some 2 billion gallons of production must be brought online over the next few years.  In addition to the elimination of MTBE as an oxygenate additive to gasoline, increasing demand for ethanol, ethanol is currently less expensive per gallon then refined gasoline, this may change in the future.  Ethanol allows for cleaner burning of gasoline and adds a sense of domestic reliance rather than foreign reliance on energy sources, which is a healthy spin on ethanol today.
